For the Dough:

  • 2 ¼ teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1 ¼ cups warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil

For the Topping:

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

For Serving:

  • Warm marinara sauce for dipping

Instructions

Prepare the Dough:

  1. Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  2. Mix the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Let It Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Shape and Bake the Breadsticks:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Roll Out the Dough: Once the dough has risen, roll it into a 9×13-inch rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
  3. Cut into Breadsticks: Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, slice the dough into 12 equal breadsticks.
  4. Transfer to a Baking Pan: Place the breadsticks onto a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart.
  5. Bake: Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown.

Prepare the Topping:

  1. Melt the Butter: In a small bowl, mix the melted butter with garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, basil, parsley, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Brush the Breadsticks: Once the breadsticks come out of the oven, immediately brush them with the seasoned butter mixture.
  3. Add Parmesan (Optional): Sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese for extra flavor.

Serve and Enjoy:

  1. Slice and Serve: Let the breadsticks cool slightly, then separate them using a knife if needed.
  2. Dip and Enjoy: Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.
